Cartha / Glasgow City Sevens

Run by: Cartha Queens Park RFC

Where: Dumbreck, Glasgow

Winners play for: Cartha Challenge Cup

Notes: Originally run by Cartha rugby club. There has been confusion over the club name; simply the south Glasgow club name of Cartha is based on a poetic name for the River Cart, a tributary of the Clyde which flows through Cathcart and Paisley. (See for example: the Paisley and Renfrewshire Gazette of 23 November 1889 which ran a poem ‘Cartha’s banks’. There was also a Cartha Engineering Works at 22 Smithhills in Paisley.)

Cartha merged with Queens Park rugby club in 1974; and the Sevens became the Cartha Queens Park Sevens, and later on a further name change the Glasgow City Sevens.

    • My apologies , age does terrible things..I have just found winners medal for 1993 , not 1994 , I was convinced it was 94 , so I am maybe doing Grangemouth a disservice, and see Hawick Trades down as 93 winners

    • I captained Hillhead /Jordanhill that day, sent you an email reply with report from Alan Christie attached, admittedly not dated . We beat Grangemouth in the 2nd round , then Hawick Trades before the final
